The Lone Star State of Texas offers some of the best ranking, accredited colleges and universities offering degrees in emergency management. With campuses located throughout the state and online courses, obtaining a degree in emergency management is obtainable. Whether a student is looking to advance within their career or looking to start a new profession, the degree programs available will prepare students to enter the workforce. Angelina College

Angelina College offers structured courses for certification programs, continued education units and undergraduate (Associate’s) degree. Students who wish to continue their education to earn a bachelor’s degree at a university can transfer with an Associate in Applied Science and Associate in Art degrees. These two degrees are designed for transferring to a university or for entry into the workforce. Specialized training is offered such as The Angelina College Fire Academy for the basic fire suppression certificate program which will prepare students for the Texas Commission on Fire Protection Basic Firefighter Certification examination. Angelina College is a convenient, low cost choice in obtaining college education.

Associate in Applied Science, Emergency Medical Services Program

The Associate in Applied Science, Emergency Medical Services Program degree is for students who wish to obtain a formal education in order to enter the workforce in the emergency medical field. The curriculum components for the degree requires a total of 69 degree hours with core classes in english, speech, math, biology, humanities and sociology. There are also technical classes required in emergency medical services such as trauma management, medical emergencies, patient assessment, airway management and emergency pharmacology. By obtaining this degree, students will be prepared for licensure as a paramedic with career possibilities in multiple hospital departments such as emergency room, ICU or lab), emergency medical services education, emergency medical services management, industrial safety and the military. The Associate in Applied Science, Emergency Medical Services Program degree also prepares students who wish to transfer to a university in order to achieve a bachelor’s degree. Enrollment in the Emergency Medical Services Program is limited as acceptance into Angelina College does not guarantee placement in the program.

Associate of Applied Science Degree, Emergency Medical Services

Earning an Associate of Applied Science Degree, Emergency Medical Services through Austin Community College District prepares students for licensure as a paramedic. With classes held at the Eastview and Cypress Creek campuses, students gain the skills necessary to become successful in the emergency medical services field. The emergency medical service courses offered through Austin Community College District are nationally accredited through the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions. Enrollment in the program is limited as admission to the school does not guarantee acceptance to the program. Informational sessions are available on the school website. There are prerequisites required before applying, such as Texas state certification as an EMT-Basic or eligible for National Registry at the EMT Basic Level, current and documented cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), immunity record to specific diseases, pass a criminal background check and drug screening and successful completion of competency exam. Once accepted, students will be required to obtain a physical examination and an annual documented tuberculosis test.

University of North Texas

One of the nation’s largest universities with 36,000 students, the University of North Texas is a public school offering approximately 100 majors and 400 student organizations. Students have the option of living in traditional residential halls or living-learning communities where students are groups based on interests and majors such as music, visual arts, journalism, or health and welfare. The Bachelor of Science in Emergency Administration and Planning from the University of North Texas prepares students for careers with government agencies, private industry and humanitarian organizations such as Federal Emergency Management Agency, Red Cross, local and state emergency management coordinator or community emergency response teams. Set in an urban environment nestled on 176 acres, West Texas A&M University is located approximately 15 files south of Amarillo, Texas. Founded in 1910 as a public institution, West Texas A&M University has an enrollment of over 7,000 students and offers over 62 undergraduate and 41 graduate degree programs. There are approximately 8,000 students enrolled in the Ph.D. in Agriculture program. Emergency Management Administration program

The Emergency Management Administration program at West Texas A&M University prepares students for careers in advanced levels of emergency services administration and management professions. By offering a curriculum rich in cutting edge intellectual development, students who graduate with a Bachelors in Emergency Management Administration are prepared for careers such as firefighters, police officers, emergency responders, military personnel, and other emergency service positions. Admission to the program requires an Associate’s degree or completion of appropriate technical courses offered through the National Fire Academy or other accredited technical/educational school. Further, students must be currently employed in an emergency management position and must have completed a minimum of five years of emergency management experience by graduation. The Emergency Management Administration Program is accredited and available completely online. Students are not required to live on campus and nor be residents of Texas. Completion of 120 credit hours is necessary and can be done on a part time basis.
