Florida State University offers an Undergraduate Certificate in Emergency Management and Homeland Security and a Graduate Certificate in Emergency Management and Homeland Security.
The Undergraduate Certificate in Emergency Management and Homeland Security provides students with the knowledge and skills needed for jobs in emergency management and related areas. A total of 12 credit hours are required to finish the program. The core courses include: Foundations in Emergency Management and Emergency Management Programs, Planning, and Policy. Students must select two courses from a variety of elective options such as Emergency Management Leadership and Communications, Introduction to Terrorism, Disaster Systems, Homeland Security Policy and Practice, Mega Disasters, U.S. Intelligence Community, International Comparative Disaster Management, Public Health and Emergency Management, and Global Security and Fusion.
The Graduate Certificate in Emergency Management and Homeland Security provides students with advanced knowledge in emergency management. A total of 15 credit hours are needed to complete this program. Students must take two core courses: Foundations in Emergency Management and Emergency Management Programs, Planning, and Policy. Students must then select three elective courses such as Advanced Topics in Terrorism, Disaster Recovery and Mitigation, International Comparative Disaster Management, Homeland Security Policy and Practice, Emergency Management Studio, Disasters: From Shock to Recovery, U.S. Intelligence Policy, and Global Climate Change and Resilience.

Federal Work Study
The Federal Work Study is a program funded by the federal government that enables students who show a significant financial need on the FAFSA to work part-time to earn money to help pay for their college education. Positions on and off campus are available through approved organizations. The program encourages students to work jobs that are related to their future careers or positions that benefit the community. Students have the ability to work up to 20 hours a week while they are taking classes. The pay varies but is at least the current federal minimum wage.
