Forsyth Technical Community College offers an online Associate in Applied Science in Emergency Management. The program features and interdisciplinary curriculum that combines theoretical perspectives and professional practice. It focuses on the real-world application of theories to actual settings. The curriculum is intended to provide students with a strong understanding of the technical and professional knowledge needed for emergency services delivery in various settings. The foundations of the curriculum are emergency management concepts of mitigation, preparedness, and response and recovery. Students have the ability to combine courses in emergency medical science, criminal justice technology, and fire protection technology to modify their degree to meet their professional and personal interests. The coursework includes classroom and laboratory exercises and students learn technical and administrative aspects, including hazardous materials, codes, standards, investigative principles, finance, and emergency agency operations. A total of 65 credit hours are needed to complete the degree program. About Forsyth Technical Community College
Forsyth Technical Community College is a public two-year college location in Winston Salem, North Carolina. It is one of the largest colleges within the North Carolina Community College System. It was established in 1960 as the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Industrial Education Center. It first offered vocational education and training in skilled areas. In 1964, the college changed its name to Forsyth Technical Institute and began offering general adult enrichment courses. It started offering allied health and criminal justice programs in 1971 and a nursing program in 1972. It became Forsyth Technical College in 1985 and finally Forsyth Technical Community College in 1987. The College Transfer Program started in 1989. The college continued to expand throughout the 1990s and 2000s. In 2008, the Northwest Forsyth Center opened in King, which is home to specialized training areas for the programs in criminal justice, fire protection, and emergency medical science.
Today, Forsyth Technical Community College is home to more than 11,000 students earning credits and over 24,000 taking corporate and continuing education courses. It operates 10 locations in the counties of Forsyth and Stokes North Carolina, including Main Campus, West Campus, Forsyth Tech @Innovation Quarter, Grady P. Swisher, Goodwill Training Center, Mazie S. Woodruff Center, Transportation Technology Center, International Center, Northwest Forsyth Center, and Forsyth Tech Stokes County Center. It operates on the semester-based academic calendar.

Federal Work Study
Students who demonstrate a financial need are eligible to apply for the Federal Work Study Program. This program allows students to pursue employment opportunities to earn money for their college education. Jobs typically range from 10 to 15 hours a week either on or off campus. The pay varies but is at least federal minimum wage. Students meet with a supervisor to schedule their work hours at the beginning of each term. Students are required to maintain satisfactory academic progress to remain eligible for the Federal Work Study Program.
