Four ISU Degrees for Emergency Management Careers

At Sam & Aline Skaggs Center, the Kasiska Division of Health Sciences grants a B.H.S. in Emergency Medical Services for Idaho State University Bengals who develop the critical response skills to deliver transitional care that sustains human life. Chaired by Dr. Prof. Mike Mikitish, the 120-credit, CAAHEP-accredited program builds its Leadership/Management, Education, Clinical, or Community Paramedic track in a hybrid online and Meridian format. Each August, the A.S. in Paramedic Science admits cohorts of 15-20 pursuing Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification to provide life-saving healthcare before hospital arrival. Since 2003, the B.S. in Emergency Management has responded to 9/11 by training Idaho State University undergrads for essential public sector positions protecting the nation’s people and infrastructure from growing threats. About Idaho State University
Idaho State University originated on March 11, 1901, when 5th Governor Frank Williams Hunt signed Theodore F. Turner’s Senate Bill 53 to create the Academy of Idaho. In September 1902, Principal John W. Faris welcomed an inaugural class of 122 to its four-block Pocatello campus. In 1915, it became Idaho Technical Institute and shifted toward WWI efforts. In 1927, it was acquired by the University of Idaho for a Southern Branch with two-year associate degrees. In March 1947, the Board of Regents granted it independence again and called it Idaho State College. Regionally accredited in 1948, it finally became Idaho State University in 1963. Idaho State University Accreditation Details
On October 5, 2017, the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) concluded the Mid-Cycle Evaluation Report review to continue Level VI accreditation at Idaho State University through Fall 2021 under its 13th president, Dr. Kevin D. Satterlee, who received the Boise State Top Ten Scholar Award. Located 737 miles northwest via Interstate 84 in Redmond, Washington, this superb seven-state Cascadia Region accreditor is recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) to check the quality of ISU’s 280 programs. On September 28, 2014, the Department of Public Safety announced its accreditation by the Idaho Chiefs of Police Association (ICOPA). Idaho State is also accredited by the Commission Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and Fire & Emergency Services Higher Education (FESHE).
Idaho State University Application Requirements
Admission to Idaho State University is classified “minimally difficult” by Peterson’s because 3,249 of the 3,253 Fall 2017 applicants were selected for high 99 percent acceptance. First-year Bengals entering the Institute of Emergency Management should culminate the Idaho Core or an out-of-state high school equivalent. GED recipients are eligible with 160 subject and 640 composite scores. Freshmen must meet a 2.5 GPA minimum, though the average is 3.22. Undergrads need at least 18 ACT Math and 19 ACT English marks. Qualifying SAT scores are 490 Math and 460 Reading or better. The Honors Program only considers outstanding learners with GPAs above 3.6 and SAT totals over 1200. Foreign learners are welcome with a 5.5 IELTS, 61 TOEFL iBT, or 68 Compass score. Incoming A.S. in Paramedic Science students must fulfill prerequisites, such as Human Anatomy and Medical Terminology. Verifying completion of American Heart Association CPR and BLS certification is mandated.
Idaho State University has general undergrad deadlines of August 1st for Fall and December 1st for Spring enrollment. However, international students are only considered until March 1st and August 1st respectively. A.S. in Paramedic Science cohorts specifically must file by March 31st. Tuition and Financial Aid
For 2018-19, Idaho State University charged full-time undergrads $3,710 per semester or $7,420 annually. Non-resident associate/bachelor’s tuition was $11,470 by term or $22,940 each year.
